Tax specialist Annette Stone has been promoted to a Director of Thomas Westcott Chartered Accountants. With more than 20 years’ tax experience, Annette joined our Plymouth office in 2017 and is best known for advising high net worth individuals and business owners.

Following senior level appointments and the merger with Riley Chartered Accountants earlier this year, Annette’s promotion is the latest strategic development to grow our specialist tax team in Plymouth and across the region.

After being told she was too young to pursue her dream of becoming a tax inspector, Plymothian Annette began her accountancy career in London’s Canary Wharf. She eventually returned to the South West, working for Ernst and Young in Exeter and Mark Holt & Co in Plymouth.

At Thomas Westcott, she focuses on offering tax advice to business owners and their families, as well as retired individuals. In recent months she has advised many clients in the hospitality and construction sectors on changes to VAT payments. Annette is also supporting businesses in and around the city on tax considerations arising from Brexit and Plymouth’s new Freeport status.

She is often referred for providing specialist advice to bereaved families on trusts and estates and tax advice in divorce cases. In addition, she supports many Thomas Westcott business clients to resolve queries with HMRC.

As well as working with a number of clients in and around Plymouth and across the South West, she is often asked to provide specialist tax advice to businesses in London and the South East.

Annette said: “I am really thrilled to have been made a Director because it’s recognition for years of hard work. It’s very exciting to have this opportunity at Thomas Westcott, where we have established a strong tax team with a depth and breadth of specialist expertise.

“My work gives me the opportunity to really get to know my clients and support them through life’s ups and downs. Whether I am advising businesses or individuals, what really drives me is getting to understand their priorities and helping them to reach their goals.

“I am looking forward to continuing my career path at Thomas Westcott and to keep progressing in the firm.”

Partner and Head of the Thomas Westcott Tax team Mark Tibbert said: “Congratulations to Annette on being made a Director. Her promotion reflects her technical tax expertise and her commitment to providing all of her clients with the very best service.

“The appointments we have made in our tax team over the last year, including the merger with well-respected Plymouth firm Riley Chartered Accountants, positions us extremely well to support businesses and individuals in the city and beyond. Annette’s promotion is the latest development in our strategic growth plan.

“Annette makes a significant contribution to our tax team and to the firm as a whole and I look forward to seeing her continue to progress in her career with Thomas Westcott.”

Annette is a Trustee of YMCA Plymouth and volunteers for stage school Italia Conti Plymouth.
